This ornate armchair (fauteuil) is a striking example of neoclassical revival furniture, drawing inspiration from the grandeur of ancient Greece and Rome. The chair features elaborately carved and gilded wooden elements, including lion head arm terminals and paw feet that echo classical symbols of strength and authority. The seat is upholstered in a rich yellow silk damask, embroidered with a central urn motif framed by laurel wreaths—traditional emblems of victory and enlightenment.
A carved medallion of Medusa adorns the upper backrest, evoking mythological references and serving as a protective symbol.
